Homemade Acne Solutions

Acne. It’s an unwelcomed addition to anyone’s face and now that the sweaty, hot, humid summer months are here, acne sufferers are looking for new ways to battle those breakouts.

And while store bought treatments can help clear up your skin, there are some easy, and more affordable DIY acne treatments that you can make from the comfort of your own home, or more specifically, your kitchen.

One thing that should be mentioned before getting into the different treatments however, is if you have sensitive skin that is also prone to acne, you should try these remedies on the inside of your wrist before applying them to your face.

Now let’s get our DIY on, shall we?

Baking Soda

Here you were thinking baking soda was just for absorbing odors in your fridge.

Actually baking soda can help to dry up acne breakouts, gently cleanse, and even exfoliate your skin. This is useful because a gentle exfoliation helps to remove the top few layers of dead skin cells off your face, which is usually where dirt and oil get caught, ultimately leading to breakouts.

All you have to do is combine 3 parts of baking soda to 1 part water and mix together until you have a paste that can be easily spread onto your skin.

Then, gently rub the paste into your skin in a soft, circular motion and let it sit on your face until completely dry before rinsing off with cool water.

Lemons

Lemons have been used for homemade remedies for years, from colds to household cleaning products, but did you know you could cure your acne with it?

Simply mix equal parts of fresh lemon juice with some rosewater and apply to your face either with clean hands or a new, clean small paintbrush.

Let the solution soak into your skin for around 5 minutes, but no longer than 7 minutes as you don’t want the lemon juice to irritate or dry out your skin too much.

Then rinse it off with cool water and pat dry.

Since lemon is a natural astringent, it should help to break down any oil caught in your pores, while the rosewater should help to soothe your skin and calm down any inflammation that comes with breakouts.

Tea Tree Oil

Okay, so you may not have this lying around the house but you can pick it up from any natural food store, and a little bottle will go a long way.

All you have to do is dab some tea tree oil on a cotton ball and dab it directly onto your pimples 3 times per day. For even better results, make sure you dab the oil onto your face once before bed so it has time to absorb fully into your skin and work it’s anti-acne magic.

If, however, you have sensitive skin you should dilute your tea tree oil with a little water so you don’t agitate your skin even more.

Tea tree oil is a great natural treatment for acne as it is an effective antiseptic that is great for destroying any bacteria that may be caught in your pores.

Et voila! 3 simple acne solutions that are not only more affordable than store-bought treatments but are also better for your skin. Just make sure you stay consistent with your skincare routine, and you stay away from any greasy foods so that you get the best results and can live an acne-free life.
